Public engagement should definitely be encouraged by universities and institutions because apart from helping researchers promote their research and increase visibility, it also helps with reducing the gap between the scientific and non-scientific community. There are many misconceptions among researchers about being publicly vocal about their research that need to be cleared, and public engagement should be treated by researchers as their responsibility.
