I do this once a year, when I go on holiday overseas I don't take any devices except an e-book reader. But my use pattern for social media is atypical. It's not on my phone so I don't join the head-down scrolling unaware of their surroundings hordes in the street or on the station platform. Oddly, the other day I was walked into in the street by a fellow reading a dead-tree book as he walked, oblivious to what was happening around him!
It may just be my age but I only dipped my toe into the social media scene. As I reported previously here, I did try Twitter but found it very bad for my state of mind and deleted my account. Unless it is for publicity using a specific account, I think many staff members could live without most social media permanently. I have LinkedIn and ResearchGate but to add another source of bombardment to the email tide seems too much.
