Excellent post. I especially like your prefatory comments about blogging being a form of academic writing, not simply ancillary to the process. One more way blogging can improve one's formal publications: it puts your work out for early comment, potentially engaging you in conversations that unearth weaknesses and new ideas. This can also involve the blogger in long-term networks that can greatly enrich one's work and thought.
"Multimedia affordances" I trust that your next blog will reveal just what that is supposed to mean?
