Large group teaching is inevitable in Higher Education. I'd suggest we need to move away from lecture vs active learning as being two separate entities. It's what takes place in the lecture theatre that needs addressing. There is a place for both lecturing and participatory learning activities in large group teaching. We need to get the balance right. I'd suggest there is far too much lecturing at present, particularly too much lecturing for the wrong purpose.
