Ignoring the UK’s China reliance is a recipe for disaster

The government should help universities diversify their source countries as it works towards a fix for domestic student funding, says Connor Horsfall

A failed business model for too many Us - built on the shaky foundations of PGT courses over-dependent on recruiting from China and also on flogging ‘Masters-with-a-Visa-for-all-the-family ‘. Political backlash in UK, Canada, Australia given that HE imposed adverse externalities by way of massive pressure on local housing in so many university cities. End of ‘peak’ HE as also growing recognition of graduate under-employment - and actual un-employment in some countries such as China. Plus for some degree courses a dwindling supply of customers as school students shun certain A-level subjects. Still, competent Management ought to be able to radically restructure fast enough to avoid insolvency - but probably wishing they had not gone on a borrowing binge over the past decade!
