The research group “Atmospheric Transport Processes,” led by Prof. Andreas Stohl, is part of the Department of Meteorology and Geophysics. The group develops the Lagrangian transport model FLEXPART and studies all aspects of transport in the atmosphere, ranging from greenhouse gases to pollutants, water vapour and heat, and uses inverse modelling techniques to determine sources of greenhouse gases, air pollutants and radionuclides.

Your personal sphere of play:

We seek a highly motivated candidate to co-lead the further development of the transport model FLEXPART and its applications. FLEXPART is a community model, and our group is committed to its further development and making it more user-friendly. We also maintain and develop software to process meteorological input data to the model, as well as software for the analysis of model output. One example is the software FLEXINVERT, which is used for inverse modelling applications, e.g., to determine the sources of greenhouse gases. We are also seeking to establish new scientific application fields for FLEXPART, and the candidate will be free to choose future research directions of his/her own choice.

The successful candidate will be a creative scientist who enjoys both writing and documenting model source code, as well as seeking novel model applications. As a result of this work, peer-reviewed publications documenting the model and describing its applications are expected. The successful candidate will also support master students, doctoral students and Postdocs in the group, and will – to a limited extent – provide support to external users of FLEXPART.

The responsibility for the code development will be shared with another senior scientist, Marina Dütsch, and the development shall integrate the work of the whole group

The position will initially be limited to three years duration, after which it can become permanent by mutual agreement.

Your tasks will be:

Active participation in research, teaching, and administration, which means you will in particular:


	Co-lead the further development of the Lagrangian transport model FLEXPART;
	Conduct research by applying the model in different fields;
	Publish your scientific results in peer-reviewed journals;
	Teach within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement;
	Strengthen the collaborative culture of our team and the department.


You will require:


	Completed doctorate / PhD in the atmospheric sciences (e.g., meteorology, climatology), physics, computational sciences, or a related field;
	Excellent programming skills, preferably in Fortran and Python;
	A good team spirit and willingness to collaborate;
	Strong English communication skills.

	Experience with Lagrangian transport models;

We are seeking an experienced researcher to join the CUE Robotics Team at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. This position will play a key role in a small team developing novel automated inspection systems for the UK’s next-generation submarine fleet, with a particular focus on the inspection of structural components, tanks, and pipework. To be considered for this role, you will hold a PhD or equivalent qualification, and possess significant research experience. You should have a proven track record of delivering research projects. The Department of Sociology and Social Policy brings together scholars with international research experience and publication records in major outlets in the area of Sociology and Social Policy. General Requirements

We seek a highly motivated candidate to pursue his/her doctoral thesis within the research fields covered by our research group. These could be, for instance, theoretical and numerical improvements of FLEXPART, development of new application fields for the model, or applications of the model in existing application fields such as transport of heat and/or water in the atmosphere during extreme meteorological events; climatological analyses of air/heat/water transport using an existing Lagrangian re-analysis; development of a new Lagrangian re-analysis based on the forthcoming ERA6 reanalysis; inverse modelling of greenhouse gases, radionuclides or air pollutants in the atmosphere. We will select the best qualified candidate and will define the exact topic of the doctoral thesis together with him/her.

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.
